Sail Newport hosted its annual Newport Regatta over the Independence Day weekend for a variety of one-design classes including the J/70s. The 10-boat J/70 fleet saw the current World Champion Jud Smith’s AFRICA start off by winning the first race and eventually the regatta. After compiling a 1-2-3-1-1, the AFRICA team won by a six-point margin. Sailing a solid series was John & Molly Baxter’s TEAM VINEYARD VINES, who kept it close to AFRICA on the first day with a 3-1-4, but closed with a 5-6-1 to take the silver.
