Sailors from 21 U.S. States and from U.S.V.I., Antigua and Barbuda, Bermuda, the Grenadines, Canada, Chile, Italy and the U.K. competed in the 34th Annual Newport Regatta, held July 7-8 in Newport, RI. The event started in 1984 as a Shields-only event and has grown to be a “must-do” on the East Coast. Twelve classes of one-designs raced on five course circles of racing over Narragansett Bay including 27 J/70s. Six races were completed, and current J/70 World Champion Peter Duncan on Relative Obscurity topped the fleet with 17 net points. Just two notches back were Marty Kullman’s Hydra and Jud Smith’s Africa. For complete results, visit https://yachtscoring.com/event_results_cumulative.cfm?eID=4842.
