Thanks to Bruce Cooper for this report: California Yacht Club maneuvered around a forecast of no wind and rain for the West Coast Winter Series Race #1 and provided great racing with up to 7-8 knots of wind and kept the rain away all day. New J/70 owner John Seitz and crew on Janga came out hot in race one with a victory. Jim Murrell and his light crew of Hallie and Antoine showed everyone around the race course in race two, taking first place. Races three and four showed more right shift, but tacking to the right was not an instant success tactic; but being patient and tacking a little up course with a little more wind pressure and then cross to the right seemed to be good with 32 getting good starts and getting to the fresher wind first. 32 won the last two races chased by Jim+2 on 249 with Curt and crew getting the far right corner award on race four. It looked great to be there until the pressure and shift went back left over 20 degrees. All in all, thank you to the boats that entered and special big thank you to the J/70 sailors who came out to race facing a no wind and some rain day. For full full results, click here.
