Day 1 of the West Coast Winter Series #1 started with good 8-9 knots of wind but fell down to less and less wind for the next two races. Race 1: This was the windiest race of the day with this slight shift to the right on the first beat. Nice tight mark roundings with Coach Eric Doyle there acting as on the water umpire in case there were troubles, but the fleet kept proper social and racing distance with no penalty turns called. Race 2: Lighter winds 5-6 knots, fairly large shift to the left and slightly more pressure on the outside. The lighter wind spread things out a little bit but a wire to wire win for #305. Race 3: This race was shortened to just one lap instead of the two laps from the previous races. Lots of forward and leeward crew weight was the formula for moving in this race. Conserving speed and not doing extra tacks or gybes as the wind died was key. It was taking too long to build speed as boats gybed to the finish versus just pointing the boat to the finish and drifting with the waves to cross the line!

WCWS#1 Day 2: The weather forecast was right, and the wind was somewhere else. One race got off with one lap completed. A big 30-degree shift came in 90 seconds before the start, but good tactics was to keep the left side of the beat open for when the wind switched back to the left..it did and a little more! Eight boats started the race, and eight boats drifted, waiting for a breath of air to start more races but no wind availed. One and done!
