Miranda Bakos and her Level 5 team of Greiner Hobbs, Will Felder, Emmy Digiacomo and Janey Powell won the 2022 J/70 Mixed+ Championship hosted by St. Petersburg Yacht Club from November 11-13. Second place went to Laura Sigmond’s Norboy with Leif Sigmond, Bridget Groble, Marty Kullman and Collin Kirby. And third place went to Telmo Basterra and his Jacksonville University team of Kaitlyn Liebel, Grace Benzal and Ian Hunter. Three great days of sailing after the affects of Hurricane Nicole rolled through. The rain didn’t dampen spirits but allowed event organizer Ed Furry to run many chalk talks with the help of multi J/70 World Champion Willem Van Waay and other pro sailors competing. There was plenty of sharing of knowledge throughout the event. Doug Wake from Vakaros provided data for debriefs and photos for the event. PRO Todd Fedyzen and his team ran nine great races over the three-day event. The Mixed+ concept is a new format requiring 50% or more females per team.
