The annual Cinco de Mayo Regatta in Santa Barbara, CA is a favorite for one-design keelboats in the region, hosted by Sail Santa Barbara Sailing Club. The conditions on Saturday included winds ranging from 240 to 270 deg at 4-8 knots; Sunday’s sunny breezes built midday from the west around 4-8 knots. The Sail SBSC RC and PRO crew managed to knock out eight races for the J/70s. Winning the J/70 fleet was Pat Toole’s 3 BIG DOGS crew with a consistent record of five firsts and three seconds to win with just 9 points net. Second was Scott Deardorff’s CAKE, finishing with 16 points net. Then, taking the third spot on the podium was Wolfe’s SHARK with 20 points net.
